Job title: Sensory Technologist
Reports to: QC Laboratory Manager
Department: Quality Control

Job Purpose

The successful candidate will have responsibility for:

  • Leading the sensory assessment panel for routine quality control of raw materials, finished product and for product development samples; and interpreting the panel results for reporting
  • Continuously improving the processes and testing parameters for sensory testing of materials
  • Leading the sensory training and testing programmes for sensory panellists, using ISO standards or equivalent globally recognised methods
  • Developing and reinforcing the use of a sensory vocabulary that is commonly understood
  • Supporting investigations into product quality complaints and failures due to sensory criteria
  • Creating sensory ‘spider diagrams’ of taste profiles for marketing collateral

Job knowledge and skill requirements for this position are:

  • Graduate (BSc) or equivalent in science subject
  • Expert sensory capability and experience in a sensory testing lab
  • Understanding of statistical methods in analysing results
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work to deadlines and prioritise own workload
  • High attention to detail with a passion for continuous improvement
  • Analytical thinking with proven track record of practical problem solving and achieving stretch targets
