Job title:            Health, Safety and Environment Manager
Reports to:         Operations Director
Job grade:          D

Job Purpose

The successful candidate will but not limited to: 

  • Lead the continuous development of a business “safety culture” promoting staff engagement
  • Manage the work of the HSE Committee
  • Undertake incident investigations as required to identify root cause and preventative measures
  • Carry out health, safety and environmental compliance audits. Management of timely closure of action points
  • Point of contact for representing business HSE requirements (internal & external)
  • Maintain excellent relationships with external agencies, enforcement and industry bodies
  • Management of business COSHH assessments and its associated database
  • Creation & issuing of monthly HSE updates
  • Manage & report HSE performance to the leadership team and recommend improvements
  • Manage and organise the safe disposal of site waste & permit applications
  • Lead the green pathway project team in reducing the business carbon footprint
  • Provide HSE expertise and guidance to Leaders & team members
  • Manage all business HSE training requirements. Deliver in-house training and education of staff on HSE principles and practices
  • Advise on a range of specialist areas, including: COMAH, DSEAR, fire regulations, hazardous substances
  • Organise emergency evacuations and drills as required
  • Development & control of the site emergency response teams

Essential criteria for this position are:

  • Minimum of NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent & working towards Diploma
  • Tech / Grad IOSH membership
  • Five years proven experience of general Health, Safety  & Environmental implementation
  • Knowledge & understanding of COMAH & DSEAR regulations and management systems
  • Implementation of ISO45001
  • Excellent communication, influencing & interpersonal skills, with a natural ability to engage and work with all employees
  • Aware of and be able to apply relevant HSE legislation principles and practices in the workplace
  • Familiar with workshop safety practices and procedures
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Self-managing and hands-on approach

Desirable criteria for this position are:

  • Experience of a Health and Safety role within a Manufacturing or Chemical environment
  • Experience of working in an ATEX & DSEAR rated environment
  • Experience in hazardous waste classification, segregation and disposal
  • Experience of ISO14001 / ISO45001
  • Mental Health First Aider
